Nontoxic Product Pick: ULiv Skincare (Swapping out 'Hempz Herbal Moisturizer')

Did you know that claims like “natural,” “nontoxic,” “plant-based” and “free of” have no legal basis in the personal care industry?

With so many different claims on the packages of personal care products, consumers are often misled about what’s really in their products.  Any information found on the back label is what the company is legally obligated to tell you, including nutrition facts and ingredient lists. Pay special attention to the first three ingredients. These are the ingredients that weigh the most and make up the bulk of the product.

For these reasons, we are committed to sharing a weekly product swap out – replacing toxic and/or misleading products for those that are hormone balance friendly and toxin free!

This week we are swapping out the popular Hempz Herbal Body Moisturizer for our favorite non toxic product, Uliv Skincare: Golden Glow Facial Souffle'.

WHY WE ARE SWAPPING OUT 'HEMPZ HERBAL BODY MOISTURIZER'

CONS:

• This product is heavily marketed as "nourishing," "safe for all ages" with "pure herbal extracts." While some of the ingredients are natural (flower extract, aloe leaf juice, ginger root, etc), there are also several problematic ingredients.
• RED FLAG ingredients include: fragrance (parfum) which is a known endocrine disruptor, retinyl palmitate (linked with developmental/reproductive toxicity) and dyes. Yellow 5 & Red 40 (linked with allergies & immunotoxicity). 
• Scores a 9/10 on the EWG's Skin Deep Database (10 being the most toxic products)! 
• Long list of ingredients; many of which we haven't heard of and can't pronounce (never a good sign!)
• Phrases like "pure herbal extracts" & "100% pure natural hemp seed oil" distract shoppers from the potentially toxic ingredients included in this product
